The Takoma Coffee Club is a small hyper-local wholesale buying club for specialty coffee, with the aim to offer fresh/high quality whole bean specialty coffee, sustainably and responsibly sourced (the same as you would buy a bag of at a local coffee shop) - at a dramatically better price. All done without any post-consumer waste. Delivered to your door at no additional cost.
Currently serving Takoma, DC and the immediately adjacent areas (e.g., Takoma Park, Silver Spring, Hyattsville, etc.).
How does it work?
You first sign up for a membership, then order as much coffee as you want. It gets dropped off at your door and you pay for what you’ve used at the end of the month.
Coffee comes in glass mason jars in half pound increments. This is to ensure maximum freshness and no post-consumer waste.
Deliveries happen twice a week (on Monday and Thursday). Simply leave your empty mason jars out so they can be collected and reused in future orders.
Why a membership fee? What does it get me?
The membership gets you the following:
access to better pricing
free at-home delivery
The membership dues are immediately put to use to either buy more product or work on attracting more members. The more members there are, the more products & better pricing that can be made available to you.
What if I don't want to commit to a membership?
No worries. It's not for everybody. You can still purchase coffee, though! Just at a higher price & without delivery.
The coffee is available for $20 per pound (tax included) - which is still a great deal. You can order it using the using the buttons here (in 1/2 pound increments). Pickup is at 8005 Greenwood Ave, Takoma Park, MD 20912.
What coffees do you offer currently and where are they from?
A light roast and a dark roast.
The coffees are single-origin from Colombia. They are sourced from a micro-roaster in Asheville, North Carolina which has been my go-to for over 10 years. This roaster offers high quality coffees with great consistency, and they source their beans sustainably. The light roast coffee is my daily driver, and a crowd favorite amongst existing club members.
Coffees are received within 2-days after roast, and immediately transferred into air-tight sanitized mason jars.
How dark is the dark roast?
The roaster bills it as a dark roast, but it's actually closer to a medium roast.
Do you plan to offer other coffees?
With enough members and diverse interests, anything is possible. I could eventually see expanding the offering to include coffee from other roasters, regions, or smaller lots/etc. But for now the current coffees (light & dark roast) are the main focus - with the goal being to offer a consistent, high quality daily-driver option for folks, that's always available at a great price.
Do you plan to sell anything other than coffee?
Yes. Anything related to at-home specialty coffee is fair game as far as I’m concerned! The things which are immediately interesting are consumables related to brewing. E.g., paper filters for pour overs (like Hario V60, Chemex, etc.). If you have any other specialty coffee related items you’d like to find a better price for, let me know and I’ll see what I can do! My contact info is available in the footer of this page.
How much does it cost?
Coffee is $15 per pound for members (free delivery), or $20 per pound for non-members (available for pick-up).
Membership is $5/month, or you can pay $50/year (and get two months free).
Compared to what you pay at your local coffee shop, this is a savings of 20-40% per pound!
Is the coffee any good?
You tell me! You have two options where you can try it.
Option 1: You can pop by People's Book at 7014 Westmoreland Ave in downtown Takoma Park and get a cup (it's the best deal on a cup of coffee in town). They're brewing a fresh pot of it every morning for their customers.
Option 2: I offer a free half-pound sample to anyone that thinks they'd be a good fit (see the next question) and want to try out the service.
Think you're a good fit? Email me and let's get the ball rolling!
Who is this for?
You are a good fit if:
you make coffee at home
you enjoy/appreciate specialty coffee
you go through at least 1 pound of coffee a month
you want to spend less money on coffee without giving up the premium taste/experience
What's your cancellation policy on the membership?
100% satisfaction guaranteed. I'm not happy if you're not happy.
If you're paying monthly and want to cancel, I'll refund you for the current month you're in (regardless of where in the month you are).
If you're paying annually and want to cancel, I'll refund you your annaul membership fee (regardless of where in the year you are).
How do I sign up?
You can sign up using one of the following options (annually, or monthly):
Shortly after you’ve signed up, you’ll receive access to the order form to request coffee to be delivered.
